Photography
I live in Riga, Latvia. I am into photography since 1998. Lately, I got mostly interested in black-and-white studies of nature. A lot of these studies are meditative images devoid of contemporary matter and so in a way "timeless". My favourite subjects are seaside, water, trees, objects in the water, snow scenes.
I believe in a direct and honest artistic approach. I like to show an "essence" of a subject in a direct and specific way. I avoid too much image manipulation. I am much inspired by the work of Edward Weston.
Another interest of mine is staging photographs of people in interesting places, most often by the sea. The place and the interplay between the place and the model are very important.
I have exhibited prints in a solo exhibition "Personal Feng Shui" at gallery Bastejs, in a group exhibition "Pievilkšanas spēks" by fotoklubs.lv photography club, and on the Internet.
ORDERING PRINTS:
I'll be happy to provide you with a finished print of my work, because this is how a b&w photograph has ultimately to be viewed. I can provide traditional, hand-printed black and white prints. I suggest sizes of 13x19, 20x30 or 30x45 for prints, and a white mat. Please email me for prices, these will be reasonable.
Painting
I consider myself a (trained) amateur in painting. That means that my paintings may not show professional technique, but neither they are naive. I received training in painting during my one year of studies at the Latvian Academy of Fine Arts, as well as by studying at several private studios. I have not developed a specific style in painting yet, so I just happily make studies of whatever interests me. I am inspired by contemporary Latvian painting and by Henry Matisse. If you buy my paintings, that encourages me to continue the good work.
BUYING PAINTINGS:
The price for paintings varies, but it is usually in the range of 20-100 LVL (30-150 EUR). Most paintings are oil, canvas on cardboard. Please email me to ask if a specific painting is available.
And, if you've read this far, I'll be really happy to hear your feedback!
